Transportation Improvement Program (TIP)

Current TIP

The FY08-11 TIP [PDF 1.3 mb] is a prioritized, multi-year program for the implementation of transportation improvement projects for the Berkshire County region. As such, it serves as a management tool to ensure the most effective use of funding for transportation improvements. It is also necessary for two other reasons. First, the TIP is a requirement of the transportation planning process as most recently legislated by the Transportation Eligibility Act for the 21st Century. Secondly, a transportation improvement is not eligible for federal funding unless it is listed in the TIP. Projects from the current TIP are listed here by mode [PDF 36k] and location [PDF 29k].

The TIP must include a certification by the Metropolitan Planning Organization that the process is being carried on in conformance with various applicable Federal regulations. Certification ensures the regions continued eligibility to receive Federal funds for highway and transit projects.

The TIP Consists of five parts. They are:

  1. A description of the TIP and how it is developed
  2. A comprehensive listing of transportation projects which are expected to be implemented over the next several years, regardless of funding source
  3. The listing of TIP projects in the format required by the state highway department (by federal and state funding sources)
  4. Federally funded transportation projects with financial analysis, air quality impact analysis, and other federal requirements
  5. Listing of projects by mode of transportation, community and ID number
