The Berkshire Regional Planning Commission has received a $50,000 MS4 Municipal Technical Assistance Grant from the MA Department of Environmental Protection to employ a regional approach toward meeting Illicit Discharge Detection & Elimination requirements of the National Pollutant Discharge and Elimination System (NPDES) Phase II General Permit. BRPC will partner with the Housatonic Valley Association, Berkshire Environmental Action Team (BEAT), and the Hoosic River Watershed Association (HooRWA). The Project Partners will work with and report back to the five regulated (or soon to be regulated) communities within Berkshire County: Adams, Dalton, Cheshire, Lanesborough, and Pittsfield. This approach will begin to address compliance with the enhanced IDDE requirement in a cost-effective manner that reduces community costs, both individually and on a regional basis by maximizing efficiencies, utilizing existing methodologies, working with local non-profit groups, and utilizing an existing pool of volunteers.
