GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Embrace the outdoors and shape adventure in Berkshire County! Use your creative writing skills and love of nature to help us update assets on the region’s outdoor recreation website (www.BerkshiresOutside.org), as one of BRPC’s Outdoor Recreation Interns for Summer 2025. These are unpaid positions; BRPC encourages students to confer with their college or university about internship compensation programs. Mileage reimbursement is available for fieldwork travel within Berkshire County. Up to 35 hours per week, for 8-10 weeks beginning May/June. Hybrid.
RESPONSIBILITIES
BRPC maintains an extensive database of outdoor recreation assets, which provides the core content for the outdoor recreation website for Berkshire County, launched in early 2024 (www.BerkshiresOutside.org). This website’s primary use is to promote outdoor recreation to residents and visitors, and it includes information on a full range of activities available in the region: hiking, biking, winter sports, water sports, hunting and fishing, etc. These internships will primarily involve thoroughly documenting outdoor recreation assets with a focus on accessible features and updating the database.
- Update written descriptions of many outdoor recreation facilities in Berkshire County to improve their usefulness and Search Engine Optimization.
- Review existing photographs of outdoor recreation sites throughout the county and update them as needed, including short videos of site highlights; photograph accessible features (parking, paths, picnic areas, etc.) at each site.
- GPS a limited number of trails in the county.
- Research outdoor recreation programs and organizations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)
Successful candidates are organized, research-oriented, self-directed, and creative writers. Familiarity with Berkshire County outdoor recreation facilities is a benefit. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for conducting fieldwork. Applicants must be able to hike several miles through the woods on rugged trails.
COMPENSATION
This is an unpaid internship, with mileage reimbursement available for fieldwork travel within Berkshire County. We are happy to work with your academic institution to provide course credit or other financial support.
