GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The AmeriCorps (ACC) Lead for America Member will support Digital Navigation & Workforce Development Projects that provide digital skills training and outreach to improve internet adoption and workforce opportunities in rural communities across Berkshire County. The projects aim to build the confidence and skills of adults of all ages and abilities across our region to use computers and the internet. The Member will be part of a broad, national cohort of AmeriCorps Members while experiencing the specific workings of a vibrant and diverse regional planning agency. This is a full-time, temporary position with benefits provided by AmeriCorps. Core work hours (9:00 or 10:00 am to 5:00 or 6:00 pm) must be covered every workday unless otherwise agreed. Full-time staff must work a minimum of 35 hours per week, with occasional weekends and night meetings as required; AmeriCorps requires ACC Members to complete 1,700 hours annually. At the host site (BRPC), the position reports to BRPC’s Senior Economic Development Planner. There are also regular check-ins and evaluations with ACC’s Program Coordinator.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Learn to deliver digital skills information to adults of all ages and abilities using trusted curricula materials.
  • Help recruit adult learners for digital skills presentations, workshops, and/or classes.
  • Prepare, rehearse, teach, and document participants’ responses to digital skills presentations, workshops, and/or classes.
  • Gather data and write brief reports using a funder-created template (twice yearly) to share progress and outcomes related to digital skills and engagement experiences.
  • As-requested (varies by location) provide 1:1 tech support to residents at libraries and Councils of Aging, and/or housing authorities.
  • Engage respectfully and productively with town leaders, such as town managers and Council on Aging, housing authority, and library directors and staff.

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in weekly supervision with BRPC Senior Economic Development Planner to share progress and troubleshoot challenges related to digital skill teaching and engagement experiences.
  • Participate in bi-weekly, 1-hour BRPC agency staff meetings and make 1-2 annual presentations (10-15 minutes each) to share the AmeriCorps experience with fellow staff.
  • As time allows, help research and write grants to ensure the sustainability of digital skills programs throughout the county.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to build trusted, positive relationships with leaders, supervisors, and peers
  • Collaborative team-builder and problem-solver
  • Ability to work independently, set priorities, and manage workflows
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Comfort with public outreach and engagement
  • Interest in teaching and presenting to adult learners
  • Ability to travel throughout Berkshire County to attend meetings, events, and training

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Experience working with older adults and people of all ages with socioeconomic challenges
  • Experience teaching and/or developing presentations
  • Bilingual English and Spanish
  • Interest or experience in research and grantwriting

 

PAY RANGE
