Construction of roundabout at Five Corners intersection ongoing, expected completion in fall of 2026

WILLIAMSTOWN — Construction of a roundabout at the Five Corners intersection is in full swing, and though it’s slowed traffic considerably, that may be a good thing.

The Five Corners, where routes 7 and 43 cross, was known as a dangerous intersection well before the Massachusetts Department of Transportation announced plans for a roundabout in 2021.

A MassDOT spokesperson said the goal of replacing the current stop signs with a roundabout is to improve traffic operations and safety.

“This intersection was identified several years ago by MassDOT’s Traffic Safety as having an above-average crash rate for an un-signalized intersection,” spokesman John Goggin said in an email.
