General Description
The Part-Time Public Health Inspector/Health Agent conducts public health and environmental inspections for Berkshire County municipalities and assists with enforcement of state and local health regulations. This position supports local Boards of Health by maintaining inspectional standards, providing accurate documentation, and supporting municipal staff as needed. This is a part-time, off-site, flexible schedule position with limited hours per week. Occasional weekends and evenings may be required. This position reports to the Public Health Services Program Manager.
Primary Responsibilities
- Conduct public health and environmental inspections (food establishments, temporary food operations, septic/Title 5, housing, pools, recreational camps, campgrounds, etc.) and follow-up as needed.
- Support municipal use of the online permitting system.
- Review and approve plans or applications related to inspectional services.
- Maintain accurate and complete records in electronic and hard copy formats.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures, policies, model regulations, and inspectional protocols.
- Attend Board of Health meetings to report on monthly inspectional activities and support BOH staff.
Qualifications
- Relevant education or work experience in environmental health, onsite wastewater systems, or inspectional services.
- Current Massachusetts Soil Evaluator and Title 5 System Inspector certifications.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
- Proficiency with electronic recordkeeping and data entry.
Pay Range
As of July 01, 2026, the full pay range for this position is $35.94 – $49.71 per hour, individual compensation is dependent on education and experience. The starting pay range for this position is $35.94 – $42.82. Market adjustments are generally available in July each year. BRPC may not alter the pay range unless the position is re-posted.
