Housing Secretary Ed Augustus wants municipalities to weigh in on how the state crafts accessory dwelling unit regulations
When Gov. Maura Healey signed into law the historic housing bond bill last month, it included a provision aimed at encouraging the development of accessory dwelling units to help communities struggling with a lack of housing.
But what it did not include was specific guidance for how municipalities should go about implementing the law.
And while the state is aware of the calls for more information as the Feb. 2 implementation date approaches, Housing Secretary Ed Augustus says he wants to ensure that municipalities have input into the process.
“We could go fast, but we will leave out that comment period [when] the Berkshires or some other part of the state [could] say, ‘Hey, this doesn’t work for us,’” he said.
