BRPC, in partnership with Pioneer Valley Planning Commission and Waterstone Engineering, will expand an existing Green Infrastructure BMP Library by adding 3 – 4 additional BMP designs and a Siting Matrix. Information about the expanded GI BMP Library and how to use it will be providing in trainings made available to municipal officials, local permitting boards, and consulting engineers. This will support well-functioning stormwater BMP implementation in multiple western Massachusetts communities and ultimately reduce nutrient loading and improve water quality in the rivers and lakes of western Massachusetts. Regulated MS4 communities in both the Connecticut and Housatonic River watersheds face many of the same challenges when it comes to reducing nutrient loading. Both are subject to the Nitrogen Long Island TMDL. The additional BMPs will all be readily implementable and standardized designs optimized for nutrient removal, size, and ease of maintenance.
