ADAMS — Where will the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail go next? About $64,000 in state funds will help map that out.

On Thursday at the Adams Visitor Center, state and local officials celebrated the funding, which will support a survey that will help shape a new extension of the trail. The study will interview residents about their commutes, which will inform the extension’s design, said Laura Brennan, executive director of the Berkshire Regional Planning Commission.

“The best-case scenario would be if all needs are met and everyone has access to the places they need to go,” Brennan said. “But we know that’s not true, and folks in the Berkshires struggle to get to their place of employment and get medical access.”
